EquiAware is an iOS / Apple Watch application for equestrians. When a rider opens the EquiAware app and starts a ride, the Apple Watch monitors motion. If the app detects a likely fall and the rider does not respond to an on-watch prompt, EquiAware sends a one-time text message to the rider's pre-designated emergency contacts containing the rider's name and last known GPS location. The purpose of the program is rider safety — alerting trusted contacts when a rider may be incapacitated.
SMS alerts are opt-in only. Every recipient of an EquiAware SMS opts in personally via a public web form — the rider cannot enroll a contact on their own. The flow has two steps:
https://equiaware.com/opt-in?for=Rider+Name and offers the rider a one-tap share sheet (iMessage, SMS, email) so they can send the link to the person they wish to designate. No phone number is ever uploaded to EquiAware from a third-party list, purchased database, or contact import. Numbers are entered by the contact themselves, on the public consent form, after personally reading the program description and checking the consent box. The rider cannot bypass the form, override it, or pre-populate a contact's number on their behalf.
Message frequency is event-driven and expected to be very low — typically zero messages per month for most users. Messages are sent only when (a) the rider is on an active tracked ride, (b) the EquiAware app detects a likely incident (fall, missed check-in, or manual SOS), and (c) the rider does not cancel the alert within the on-device confirmation window. A follow-up "all clear" SMS is sent once when the rider marks themselves safe.
EquiAware does not charge users to receive SMS alerts. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.
The program is available on all major U.S. wireless carriers, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Recipients may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any EquiAware message. Upon receiving a STOP request, EquiAware will send a single confirmation message and will not send further SMS to that number. Riders can also remove a contact at any time from the EquiAware app's Emergency Contacts screen, which immediately stops future alerts to that number.
